Juegos de Mesa - Paula Berjillos
To bring photographers, writers, and other beings to the table. To invite them to play by its rules. To forget, for a few months, our everyday roles, deadlines, and urgencies.
Juegos de mesa (Table Games) is a project by Paula Berjillos (@_la_pauli), designed and edited by Festiu, with texts by Lidia Caro Leal. It arises from Paula's playful experimentation with photographic contact sheets around the symbolic notion of the table.
The eleven tables in this book are the portrait of a thematic obsession: how to break a table into different images and create a rhythm that narrates what happens on the stage. Juegos de mesa is a fixation on the possible tables, because a table is the possibility of encounter, and an encounter is a contact game.
In that closeness, gazes and relationships are formed among diners, players, things, glasses, tablecloths, dice, goalposts, balls, napkins, lovers, desires, friendship, and all the objects and people that surround a table.
